{"id":8958,"date":"2019-08-29T22:32:25","date_gmt":"2019-08-29T22:32:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=8958"},"modified":"2019-08-29T22:32:25","modified_gmt":"2019-08-29T22:32:25","slug":"latest-uk-drink-drive-figures-show-little-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/latest-uk-drink-drive-figures-show-little-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest UK drink-drive figures show \u201clittle progress\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A road safety charity has called the UK Government\u2019s latest drink-drive figures \u201cdisappointing\u201d after they revealed no real improvement from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iamroadsmart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IAM RoadSmart<\/a> has now called for a long-term plan to tackle the issue.<\/p>\n<p>The figures show that in 2017, the latest full year statistics are available, there were 220 fatal crashes where alcohol was a factor \u2013 no change from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>The figures also showed 1,110 serious crashes, up by 100 on the previous year. There were 8,600 total casualties from road crashes which, although down from the previous year\u2019s total of 9,040, is up on the figures from 2013-5.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is truly disappointing to find yet another year of very little progress,\u201d said Neil Greig, Director of Policy and Research at IAM RoadSmart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no one simple answer to reducing these figures, but IAM RoadSmart believes we now need an emergency package of measures from the government including a lower drink-drive limit to reinforce good behaviour, the fast-tracking of evidential roadside testing machines to release police resources, as well as the introduction of innovative approaches to help drivers with alcohol problems.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A road safety charity has called the UK Government\u2019s latest drink-drive figures \u201cdisappointing\u201d after they revealed no real improvement from the previous year.
