{"id":9307,"date":"2019-12-02T20:10:56","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T20:10:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=9307"},"modified":"2019-12-02T20:10:56","modified_gmt":"2019-12-02T20:10:56","slug":"older-driver-safety-is-focus-of-awareness-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/older-driver-safety-is-focus-of-awareness-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Older driver safety is focus of awareness week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) is raising awareness of safe travel for older adults during Older Driver Safety Awareness Week (December 2-6, 2019).<\/p>\n<p>The week aims to promote understanding of the importance of mobility and transportation to ensuring older adults remain active in the community\u2014shopping, working or volunteering\u2014with the confidence that transportation will not be a barrier to strand them at home.<\/p>\n<p>AOTA says that occupational therapy practitioners have the skills to evaluate a person\u2019s overall ability to operate a vehicle safely and provide rehabilitation, if necessary. Many are specially trained in the full scope of driving rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the week, AOTA will bring attention to a different aspect of older driver safety.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monday: \u201cAnticipating Changes That Can Affect Driving\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Tuesday: \u201cFamily Conversations\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Wednesday: \u201cScreening and Evaluations With an Occupational Therapist\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Thursday: \u201cInterventions That Can Empower Drivers and Families\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Friday: \u201cStaying Engaged in the Community With or Without a Car\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aota.org\/Conference-Events\/Older-Driver-Safety-Awareness-Week.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AOTA website<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) is raising awareness of safe travel for older adults during Older Driver Safety Awareness Week (December 2-6, 2019).
