{"id":9400,"date":"2020-01-03T19:01:28","date_gmt":"2020-01-03T19:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=9400"},"modified":"2020-01-03T19:01:28","modified_gmt":"2020-01-03T19:01:28","slug":"florida-motorists-driving-and-texting-now-face-fines-under-new-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/florida-motorists-driving-and-texting-now-face-fines-under-new-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida motorists driving and texting now face fines under new law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Motorists in Florida are being reminded they can now be stopped and cited for holding a phone while driving.<\/p>\n<p>As of January 1, 2020, anyone caught texting and driving or holding a wireless device in a designated school crossing, school zone, or active work zone will be issued with a ticket.<\/p>\n<p>The new law came into effect in the summer but until the start of the new year drivers were only issued with a warning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a new year begins, I am proud to give law enforcement the ability to fully enforce the Wireless Communications While Driving law,\u201d said Governor Ron DeSantis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll drivers should be completely focused on the road in order for everyone to arrive at their destinations safely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since July 1 \u2013 when the Wireless Communications While Driving Law became effective \u2013 until December 30, 2019, Florida Highway Patrol issued 1,087 warnings for texting and driving.<\/p>\n<p>The statewide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flhsmv.gov\/safety-center\/driving-safety\/distracted-driving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Put It Down: Focus on Driving<\/em><\/a> campaign aims to raise awareness of and encourage compliance with the new law.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Motorists in Florida are being reminded they can now be stopped and cited for holding a phone while driving.
