{"id":9408,"date":"2020-01-08T19:09:08","date_gmt":"2020-01-08T19:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=9408"},"modified":"2020-01-09T12:21:47","modified_gmt":"2020-01-09T12:21:47","slug":"victoria-records-devastating-year-on-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/victoria-records-devastating-year-on-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"Victoria records \u201cdevastating year\u201d on roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Victoria has recorded its worst road toll in three years with 263 people losing their lives in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Fatal crashes were up across every road user group including drivers and passengers, and vulnerable road users like pedestrians and motorcyclists.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tac.vic.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Transport Accident Commission (TAC)<\/a> says speeding, drink and drug driving, distraction, fatigue and not wearing seatbelts were all common contributing factors to the increased road toll.<\/p>\n<p>Speed was a factor in 22 percent of crashes and around one in five crashes involved fatigue and distractions like mobile phones.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Road Safety and the TAC, Jaala Pulford, is urging Victorians to take extra care on the roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a devastating year on Victoria\u2019s roads with every loss of life someone\u2019s mother, father, sister, brother, husband, wife or friend who will not come home tonight,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re cracking down on dangerous driving, building safer roads and working on the next road safety strategy \u2013 but every Victorian has a role to play, to stop speeding, to put the phone away and drive safely.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Victoria has recorded its worst road toll in three years with 263 people losing their lives in 2019.
