{"id":9482,"date":"2020-01-31T19:10:26","date_gmt":"2020-01-31T19:10:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=9482"},"modified":"2020-02-05T10:41:14","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T10:41:14","slug":"drivers-and-passengers-in-wa-warned-to-stop-gambling-with-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/drivers-and-passengers-in-wa-warned-to-stop-gambling-with-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"Drivers and passengers in WA warned to stop gambling with lives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police and road safety experts in Western Australia have urged all drivers and passengers who don\u2019t wear seat belts to stop gambling with their lives.<\/p>\n<p>The message comes after it was revealed five people not wearing seat belts died in road crashes last year and would have likely survived had they been wearing one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur message is blunt,\u201d said Great Southern Police District Superintendent Ian Clarke. \u201cA person failing to wear a seat belt will be thrown around in a vehicle and will either die or sustain substantially worse injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Supt Clarke said higher speeds in regional areas significantly increased the impact and outcome of a crash.<\/p>\n<p>There were 588 people killed in motor vehicle crashes in Western Australia between 2014 and 2018, 135 \u2013 or 23 percent \u2013 were not wearing seat belts. And 104 of those killed not wearing seat belts were involved in crashes in regional areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA seatbelt may give you a second chance in a road crash; don\u2019t gamble with your life,\u201d added Supt Clarke.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police and road safety experts in Western Australia have urged all drivers and passengers who don\u2019t wear seat belts to stop gambling with their lives.
