{"id":9573,"date":"2020-03-05T16:46:24","date_gmt":"2020-03-05T16:46:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=9573"},"modified":"2020-03-05T16:46:24","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T16:46:24","slug":"number-of-cars-on-scottish-roads-reaches-all-time-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/number-of-cars-on-scottish-roads-reaches-all-time-high\/","title":{"rendered":"Number of cars on Scottish roads reaches all time high"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The number of cars on the road in Scotland continues to increase while public transport journeys drop, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transport.gov.scot\/our-approach\/statistics#42763\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a new report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transport.gov.scot\/our-approach\/statistics#4276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Scottish Transport Statistics publication<\/a> reveals that the number of journeys being made by public transport in Scotland has fallen to 517 million in 2018-2019 compared to 525 million the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the number of cars registered in Scotland has reached three million, which is at an all-time high and the distance they were driven increased by 10 percent over the past five years to reach 47.8 billion vehicle kilometres in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The study revealed bus journeys were down 10 percent over the past five years, while on the railways there were 97.8 million passenger journeys on ScotRail services in 2018\/19, an increase of 13 percent compared with five years ago, but the same as in 2017\/18.<\/p>\n<p>The report also found an increase in cyclists, air passengers and ferry passengers in Scotland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The number of cars on the road in Scotland continues to increase while public transport journeys drop, according to a new report.
