{"id":9639,"date":"2020-03-26T20:37:39","date_gmt":"2020-03-26T20:37:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=9639"},"modified":"2020-03-26T20:37:39","modified_gmt":"2020-03-26T20:37:39","slug":"traffic-volumes-impacted-by-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/traffic-volumes-impacted-by-coronavirus\/","title":{"rendered":"Traffic volumes impacted by coronavirus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The COVID-19 pandemic has seen a 30 percent reduction in traffic volume in the U.S. while Italy \u2013 one of the countries worst affected by the virus to date \u2013 has seen a 70 percent drop, according to new data.<\/p>\n<p>INRIX, the US location data company, is planning to publish its<a href=\"https:\/\/inrix.com\/blog\/2020\/03\/covid19-us-traffic-volume-synopsis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> COVID-19 Traffic Synopsis<\/a> every Monday to show how coronavirus is affecting traffic volumes.<\/p>\n<p>Key findings from the latest report include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the U.S. personal travel dropped through the work week, down 30 percent Thursday and Friday<\/li>\n<li>Long haul truck traffic is flat, a sign that the national supply chain is holding up so far<\/li>\n<li>Local area commercial vehicle traffic down near 10 percent, showing a slow overall decline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Rick Schuman, INRIX vice president of public sector Americas, says national decline has topped 30 percent adding that decline in national passenger traffic volume is directly tied to a decline in total trips, with distance-per-trip increasingly slightly from 9.2 miles to 9.4 miles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the reduction in congestion, we are seeing slightly shorter trip times, with 18.5 minutes per trip dropping to 17.8 minutes,\u201d said Schuman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA silver lining, if there is one, is that commercial traffic is holding up.
