Automated pedestrian crossings are now in operation in key health precincts in Greater Sydney as part of the battle against COVID-19.<\/p>\n
The crossings, which operate without the need for pedestrians to press the \u2018call\u2019 button, are operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week to protect frontline health staff and those most vulnerable.<\/p>\n
It comes after the initiative was earlier rolled out across the Sydney CBD.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re introducing this initiative to minimise the spread of coronavirus in the community, especially for essential hospital staff, patients, and members of the community visiting the hospital,\u201d said Transport for New South Wales (NSW) Secretary Rodd Staples.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople should continue to wash their hands regularly, sneeze and cough into their elbows or clean tissues that are then discarded and always practice social distancing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Transport for NSW says implementing the initiative across all signal crossings statewide is not possible and would unnecessarily impact on traffic flow in some areas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
