Western Australia\u2019s Road Safety Commissioner, Adrian Warner, is urging drivers to take care as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.<\/p>\n
The WA Government has relaxed intra-state travel rules, social distancing requirements and allow in-house dining (with caveats) from Monday 18 May.<\/p>\n
Schools are officially \u201cback\u201d and it\u2019s expected that thousands of people throughout the State have returned to their workplaces after stints of working from home.<\/p>\n
There is likely to be more traffic, more cyclists, more commuters and more pedestrians \u2013 especially around school zones \u2013 than has been seen on WA roads for weeks.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis move towards regaining our \u2018normal\u2019 lives is great news, but I want to urge all road users to be especially careful now that our roads will be much busier,\u2019\u2019 said Warner.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease be patient and courteous to all road users and concentrate on what you\u2019re doing when behind the wheel. Don\u2019t be distracted, especially around school zones.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt would be horrible to see road crashes and injuries because people aren\u2019t paying attention or are ignoring road rules, not driving to the conditions or getting behind the wheel when fatigued.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven though the travel rules have been relaxed it doesn\u2019t mean you can just head out anywhere across the State; you can only travel between adjoining regions,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd remember: Courteous driving is not only practicing safe driving it puts a smile on our faces \u2013 and that has to be a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
