{"id":9780,"date":"2020-05-26T19:25:37","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T19:25:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=9780"},"modified":"2020-05-26T19:25:37","modified_gmt":"2020-05-26T19:25:37","slug":"car-dealers-urged-to-make-teen-safety-systems-a-selling-point","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/car-dealers-urged-to-make-teen-safety-systems-a-selling-point\/","title":{"rendered":"Car dealers urged to make teen safety systems a selling point"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many vehicles today have features that give parents extra control over their teens\u2019 driving, but salespeople often require prompting before they mention them to prospective buyers, researchers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iihs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Insurance Institute for Highway Safety<\/a> has found.<\/p>\n<p>Teen safety features, including parents being able to limit the speed of their child\u2019s vehicle, keep track of its whereabouts or prevent it from being put in gear if the driver hasn\u2019t buckled are all available, but the research reveals that often parents are unaware of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVehicle monitoring systems can improve the behavior of teen drivers and reassure their parents,\u201d said IIHS Research Scientist Rebecca Weast, the study\u2019s lead author.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDealers could make this a bigger selling point with parents shopping for their new drivers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>IIHS researchers also found that, for most of the brands studied, consumers would have to spend a significant amount of time sifting through information before finding teen safety features.<\/p>\n<p>The IIHS says manufacturer websites could also do more to promote the features.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many vehicles today have features that give parents extra control over their teens\u2019 driving, but salespeople often require prompting before they mention them to prospective buyers, researchers from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has found.
