{"id":9818,"date":"2020-06-17T18:20:14","date_gmt":"2020-06-17T18:20:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=9818"},"modified":"2020-06-17T18:20:14","modified_gmt":"2020-06-17T18:20:14","slug":"western-cape-urged-to-prepare-for-winter-weather","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/western-cape-urged-to-prepare-for-winter-weather\/","title":{"rendered":"Western Cape urged to prepare for winter weather"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Drivers in the Western Cape are being asked to exercise caution as the wet and more dangerous road conditions of winter settle in.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westerncape.gov.za\/dept\/tpw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0Department of Transport and Public Works<\/a>\u00a0says shorter, darker days, fog and rain during the rainy season hamper visibility and increase the risk of a crash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSafely Home data show that fatalities tend to peak in the hours around sunset when visibility is at its worst,\u201d said the organisation in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Alert Level 3 currently in place, we are seeing more people returning to work which means more people on the roads early in the morning, late in the afternoon, and early in the evening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The organisation is calling on drivers to make sure their vehicles are roadworthy, especially tyres and lights, and to travel more slowly when visibility is poor and the roads are wet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Drivers in the Western Cape are being asked to exercise caution as the wet and more dangerous road conditions of winter settle in.
