{"id":9843,"date":"2020-06-29T16:23:51","date_gmt":"2020-06-29T16:23:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=9843"},"modified":"2020-06-29T16:23:51","modified_gmt":"2020-06-29T16:23:51","slug":"calls-to-roadside-patrols-increase-in-western-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/calls-to-roadside-patrols-increase-in-western-australia\/","title":{"rendered":"Calls to roadside patrols increase in Western Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As COVID-19 restrictions across Western Australia continue to ease, the RAC says it has received a record number of calls for help from roadside patrols.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, RAC roadside patrols attended 28,495 calls for assistance \u2013 the highest recorded in over five years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe replaced over 9,500 batteries last month \u2013 that\u2019s more than 300 a day and the highest ever recorded,\u201d said RAC Roadside Assistance Patrol Ray Farrugia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis could be a result of motorists leaving their cars stationary for longer periods or taking shorter trips during the tighter period of restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that we can move around more, it\u2019s important motorists pay extra attention to their vehicles to avoid complications due to irregular use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recommend using a smart charger to help maintain your battery and reduce the chance of having a breakdown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Farrugia suggests that, if your car has sat idle for a while, give it a long continuous run to warm the engine and circulate fluids, and pop the bonnet to check your oil, water and coolant levels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s also important to ensure your tyres are up to scratch, check the tyre pressure and carry out a visual inspection. Look out for any signs of damage or excessive, uneven wear. \u201cIf you\u2019re unsure exactly what you\u2019re looking at, or you\u2019ve postponed repairs or servicing over the last few months, seek advice from a trusted mechanic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>RAC\u2019s vehicle maintenance checklist:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Charge your battery, or if needed, have it replaced<\/li>\n<li>Do all the normal fluid level checks: oil, transmission fluid, washer fluid, power steering, brake fluid and clutch fluid if applicable<\/li>\n<li>Check your tyre pressure and look out for wear and tear<\/li>\n<li>Check your lights and make sure lamps are clean<\/li>\n<li>Check your logbook to ensure you\u2019re up to date with servicing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As COVID-19 restrictions across Western Australia continue to ease, the RAC says it has received a record number of calls for help from roadside patrols.
