With millions of Americans expected to travel over Thanksgiving Allstate Insurance has revealed the best and worst times to travel.
The latest Allstate driver report uses new data-driven insights and tools designed to reduce risk and stress on the road. Their analysis, based on two million trips, looks at how Americans actually drive.
The data shows clear patterns in Thanksgiving congestion and advises drivers to plan around peak windows to avoid heavy traffic.
The least busy times to travel are:
- Evenings from 7 to 10 pm
- Overnights from 10pm to 1am
- Morning rush hours from 7am to 11am, especially on Thanksgiving Day and Friday
The busiest times to travel are:
- Lunch hours from 11am to 3pm
- Afternoons from 3pm to 7pm
The report also reveals data about driving behavior during Thanksgiving week and shows:
- Phone handling jumps Tuesday night and Sunday evening â Up 10 per cent as drivers head out and return home from holiday plans.
- Speeding peaks Sunday morning â Up 11 per cent as drivers race home from the long weekend.
- Hard braking surges Thursday midday â Up 13 per cent, likely from last-minute errands and local congestion.
For a stress free Thanksgiving road trip Allstate is advising drivers to skip the lunch rush, with 11am to 3pm being one of the worst times to hit the road and prep vehicles now. Roadside calls surge ahead of Thanksgiving, according to the company, with a notable spike on Monday, mostly for dead batteries and flat tires.
