Road safety charity Brake and Churchill Car Insurance are calling on early years educators to help spread important road safety messages by registering for a Beep Beep! Day.

Schools, nurseries, playgroups and childminders are encouraged to sign up for the free event aimed at tots and infants aged 2-7.

The next Beep Beep! Day will take place on Wednesday 10 May 2017, to coincide with the fourth United Nations Global Road Safety Week (8-14 May). The UN’s #SlowDown campaign aims to increase understanding of the dangers of speed and encourage drivers to slow down to protect all road users.

To help UK early years get involved with the global initiative, Brake has produced a range of special resources to help little ones understand how children travel around the globe and the importance of parents slowing down in the summer months when children play outside. This includes a new colourful A2 laminated map with snap cards, colouring sheets and template letter home to parents.

Everyone who registers for a Beep Beep! Day, now in its 14th year, receives a free e-pack full of other fun ideas, activity sheets, certificates and stickers. Or for just £10.50+VAT they can receive a hard-copy bumper pack of laminated activity posters, the special global-themed resources, certificates, stickers and balloons for up to 50 children.

Last year more than 2,000 nurseries, schools and childminders registered to take part, helping spread important messages to more than 240,000 children. The event also provides an ideal opportunity to fundraise for Brake by dressing in bright clothes in exchange for donations. Funds raised help the charity in its work to support bereaved and seriously injured road crash victims, and campaign for safer roads.

Brake’s other national dates are:
Wednesday 27 September 2017 – focusing on the importance of keeping visible in darker, winter nights and creating fun autumn road safety art
Wednesday 22 November 2017 – coinciding with Brake’s Road Safety Week theme of Speed Down Save Lives.

Dave Nichols, community engagement manager at Brake, said: “Beep Beep! Days are a great way to start talking to children about basic road safety messages and also to remind adults of their responsibilities when it comes to keeping our roads safe and protecting little lives. The UN, backed by world leaders, has recognised the importance of improving road safety and raising awareness globally and we hope educators in the UK will make use of our new resources to support their cause.â€
