A new campaign aims to tackle speeding in Western Australia by challenging common excuses.
The Road Safety Commission initiative âSpeeding shatters your excusesâ challenges driversâ justifications for going above the speed limit.
The organization said 87 per cent of WA drivers admitted to speeding and 51 per cent considered it to be okay.
Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner said that he hoped the campaign would help change the culture around speeding in WA by targeting people who largely held positive attitudes about road safety.
âMost of us try to do the right thing most of the time,â he said. âBut if we do the right thing more often, it will have a dramatic impact on our road trauma statistics.
âThe new road safety campaign reminds us that seemingly small actions while driving can have catastrophic outcomes. And that if speed is a factor in your crash, there is no excuse for the harm you cause. The risk is just not worth it.â
The âSpeeding shatters your excusesâ campaign will run across print, television, and radio as well as social media.
