Independent vehicle safety authority, ANCAP SAFETY, is reminding employers and employees to make safer choices when using privately-owned vehicles for work.

Around one in four of all trips taken on Australia’s roads each year are made by employees driving as part of their routine employment.

Many organisations now have established policies which require the use of 5-star ANCAP safety rated fleet vehicles but an aspect which is often overlooked is the use of generally older, less safe private vehicles for work purposes, dubbed ‘grey’ fleet.

“While we may not realise it, the vehicle is an extension of the workplace and just as we provide our employees with a safe workspace in the office, factory or worksite, we must also provide them with a safe vehicle,” said ANCAP Chief Executive, James Goodwin.

“Workplace responsibilities also extend to employees using private vehicles for work purposes.”

ANCAP is teaming up with car sharing service, GoGet, to highlight that car-share vehicles could be a safer alternative to grey fleet vehicles.
