Road safety was placed in the spotlight during an annual cycling event in Victoria, Australia.

The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road featuring the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) People’s Ride, was held in the Geelong and the Surf Coast region, bringing world-class cycling to the area while championing road safety.

TAC was on-site throughout the event, delivering interactive education sessions on how cyclists can stay safe on the roads.

The event is a celebration of cycling but the TAC said it was also an opportunity to reinforce the importance of sharing the road and protecting vulnerable road users.

According to the TAC, nine cyclists lost their lives on Victoria’s roads last year and its latest data shows that 430 cyclists were hospitalised following a road accident in 2024-25.

“Every life lost on our roads is one too many,” said TAC CEO, Tracey Slatter.

“With nine cyclist fatalities in Victoria last year and continued risk faced by cyclists, the need for action is clear.

“At the TAC, we are committed to working together with cyclists, motorists, community groups and our road safety partners to make cycling safe for all Victorians.”
