The National Safety Council (NSC) is helping drivers to understand the technology that is in their vehicle as part of a new initiative.
With vehicle safety technologies constantly being updated the organisation has launched new resources, including videos and blogs, on its website: MyCarDoesWhat.org.
The websiteâs aims to educate the general public on vehicle technologies or advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and how to correctly use them to improve safety on the roads.
The NSC said existing technologies could save thousands of lives each year. It estimates that ADAS alone can save up to 10,000 lives per year.
âWe will only realize the full safety benefits of vehicle design if we know what features exist, their limits, how they intersect with one another and other vehicles, and the responsibility we have as roadway users to contribute to a safer environment,â said the safety organisation in a statement.
New resources launched this week include:
- An overview of the safety features available in specific vehicle types
- Short, simple explanations of what these different technologies can (and canât) do
- A video library
