Immediate action to address dangerous and illegal private e-scooter use in the UK is being called for by the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS).
The organisation has made the recommendation in a new report after gathering data of casualties involving e-scooters, including riders and other road users.
The data found that from July 2019-February 2022 there have been at least fifteen deaths involving e-scooters.
PACTS was awarded a grant by the Road Safety Trust to collect data relating to incidents involving e-scooters.
Its report summarises the findings and makes recommendations for regulation of private e-scooters – construction and use.
PACTS has also hosted a webinar with representatives from the NHS, insurance industry, police, road safety community, e-scooter operators and active travel sector.
