The US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a $20 million investment to tackle dangerous driving. The NHTSA grant program funds innovative safety tools for traffic enforcement measures including:
- Predictive data-driven analytics to deploy law enforcement resources
- Public-private partnerships designed to incentivize positive driving behavior
- Specialized training to educate law enforcement on dangerous driving behaviors
“This new funding allows us to test and validate next-generation enforcement models that will become the proven safety countermeasures of tomorrow – using data-driven technology to stop risky driving behaviors before they lead to tragedy on our roadways,” said NHTSA Administrator Jonathan Morrison.
NHTSA’s Innovative Traffic Safety Enforcement (ITSE) program supports local law enforcement agencies by funding projects that develop, test, and validate innovations that combat dangerous driving behaviors–including drug- and alcohol-impaired driving, distracted driving, seatbelt use, speeding, and reckless driving.
