Uber has announced that its new safety feature, which detects crashes or an unexpected long stop, is being rolled out in Canada.

RideCheck enables Uber to send a notification to the rider and driver asking if everything is OK if there has been a pause in the journey.

Drivers and passengers can respond through the app that all is well or take other actions like using the emergency button or reporting the issue to Uber’s Safety Line. In the event of a crash, Uber says it can also expedite the insurance claims process.

RideCheck launched in the US last fall. The feature is currently not available in Quebec, but Uber says if long stops are detected, drivers and riders in all of Canada will receive an in-app message.
