A total of 228 drivers were arrested in Colorado during an annual Halloween enforcement campaign – 150 less than last year.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and state-wide law agencies teamed up for the annual Halloween The Heat Is On DUI enforcement campaign which ran from October 31 to November 4.

The number of arrests decreased from the 378 arrests made during the same period last year.

“Increased DUI enforcement is crucial over holiday weekends to ensure all Coloradans get to their destinations safely,” said Shoshana Lew, Executive Director of CDOT.

Throughout the state, 91 agencies participated in the event, with Denver Police (25), Colorado Springs Police (23) and El Paso Sheriff (19) recording the highest arrest totals.

The Heat Is On will return on November 22 for a 10-day Thanksgiving holiday DUI enforcement.

The enforcement campaigns support CDOT’s Whole System — Whole Safety initiative to reduce traffic injuries and deaths.
