Provisional estimates from the National Interdepartmental Observatory for Road Safety reveal that 3,259 people lost their lives on the roads of metropolitan France in 2018.

With 189 less deaths than in 2017, the road mortality rate for 2018 was down 5.5 percent and down 0.3 percent from 2013, the year with the lowest number of deaths on record to date.

The reduction comes after four years of an increasing or stagnating number of deaths on the roads in France.
