Aspiring drivers can now take their knowledge test from home, as ICBC in British Columbia has introduced a new online option.
The online knowledge test can be accessed at any time of day by using a laptop or computer equipped with a camera, through a stable internet connection. It’s available for ICBC customers seeking to obtain their passenger vehicle or motorcycle learner’s licence (Class 5, 6, 7 and 8).
Each year, ICBC conducts more than 337,000 knowledge tests across the province. The organization said adding the online options was “a significant step forward in modernizing driver licensing.”
For people living in rural or remote communities, the new option reduces the need to travel long distances to an office to take their knowledge test.
“By offering this test online, we’re giving new drivers more choice and convenience, especially people in rural and remote communities who used to have to commute far distances to take the test,” said Niki Sharma, Attorney General.
“This is part of our work to modernize ICBC services so they’re more convenient, accessible and work better for everyone in British Columbia.”
In-office knowledge testing will remain an option for customers at 114 office locations that offer ICBC driver licensing services throughout BC.
