With people across the country preparing to drive to vacation destinations, personal finance website WalletHub has released a new report ranking U.S. states from best to worst for summer road trips.

North Carolina came out on top, followed by Wyoming, Minnesota, Virginia and Texas. At the bottom of the list was Rhode Island.

The states were ranked in multiple categories, including population, driving laws, congestion, quality of roads, traffic-related fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, uninsured drivers and car thefts, as well as non-safety related categories; costs and activities.
