The RAC is urging motorists to keep safety at the front of their mind this festive season following an “unacceptably high” number of deaths and serious injuries on the roads.

So far this year, 158 people have tragically lost their lives on Western Australia’s roads.

RAC General Manager Corporate Affairs Will Golsby said it was a busy and high-risk time of the year and urged motorists to drive accordingly.

“As we enter into one of the busiest times of the year, we’re urging Western Australians to take extra care behind the wheel — this includes ditching the distraction, slowing down, designating a skipper and looking out for each other,” he said.

“The number of deaths and serious injuries on our roads is unacceptably high and we all have a responsibility to make our roads safe, so that everyone can spend this valuable time with their friends and family.”

Double demerits are in place from Friday, December 20 until Sunday, January 5.
