Lawmakers in the state of Virginia, U.S. have approved a bill to allow speed cameras in and around school crossing zones and highway work zones.

State law already allows similar technology at toll booths and red lights, but this month the General Assembly passed HB1422, related to school zones and highway work zones.

The bill authorizes state and local law enforcement agencies to operate speed monitoring devices for the purpose of recording images of vehicles traveling at speeds of at least 10 miles per hour above the limit.
