eDriving FLEET’s Dr. Will Murray awarded prestigious posthumous award

Dr. Will MurrayeDriving FLEET’s Research Director Dr. Will Murray, who passed away suddenly last year, has been recognised for his dedication to road safety.

Will, who was an expert in commercial road risk management, was named posthumously as the winner of the prestigious Kevin Storey Award for Outstanding Commitment to Road Safety, sponsored by Arriva, at the recent Brake Fleet Safety Awards.

Throughout his accomplished career as an international occupational road safety expert, Will was motivated by a relentless passion for helping clients measure and maximise the impact of their safety programs.

“Our relationship with Will and his family extends over 20 exciting years,” said Ed Dubens, Executive Vice President of eDriving FLEET. “Everyone who came in contact with Will always enjoyed every minute they spent with him. His charisma and congeniality were unrivalled and his passion for our industry and saving lives was palpable in every conversation. Throughout his accomplished career as an international occupational road safety expert, Will was motivated by a relentless passion for helping clients measure and maximize the impact of their safety programs.

“As Research Director of Interactive Driving Systems and subsequently eDriving FLEET, Will was not just committed to results and efficacy, but driven by a need to demonstrate outcome. His dedication resulted in over 70 client and partner awards recognising the great results achieved with Virtual Risk Manager (VRM) at the respective companies and organisations. Nothing made him more proud than to help clients attain the recognition they deserved for the lives and costs they saved.”

Will passed away in December 2016, leaving behind wife Marie and sons Sam and Joe. All three were in attendance, together with Will’s sister Janet, to accept the award on Will’s behalf. The award was presented by Mary Williams, OBE, Brake Chief Executive, who founded the charity in 1995 with Will’s help. Will continued to serve as a trustee for 21 years.

Brake’s annual Fleet Safety Awards recognise organisations for their contribution to improving the safety of at-work drivers. This year’s event, which took place at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham, was attended by almost 400 guests, making it Brake’s biggest safety awards to date.

A new award was introduced this year in Will’s memory. The eDriving-sponsored Dr Will Murray Award for Action and Analysis in 2017 was presented to FM Conway Ltd.

eDriving FLEET client Johnson & Johnson won the Global Road Safety Award, while Rory Morgan of Iron Mountain, also an eDriving FLEET client, was named Road Risk Manager of the Year.

“We were delighted to receive so many strong entries to the awards again this year, with organisations and individuals across the world delivering fantastic work to make our roads safer for everyone,” said Ross Moorlock, Business Development Director at Brake. “Congratulations to all of this year’s award winners and highly commended entrants.”
