RoadRISK® assessment helps TNT cut motor collisions by 25%.

Drivers say assessment is useful and has helped them improve their driving.

Background

TNT Express has always been proactive and worked hard to improve its safety performance. One recent initiative has been to work closely with eDriving to develop an online RoadRISK assessment and training program for its people. To date the system has been used to assess over 1,000 drivers as part of TNT’s on-going process to risk assess all existing and new staff on a regular basis.

Neil Griffiths, TNT Express Director of Health, Safety and Environmental said ‘RoadRISK assisted us to reduce at-fault motor collision claims by 25% and contributed to a £500,000 cost reduction during the same period’.

Crawley depot managed to reduce accidents by approximately 50% over the last 12 months as well as saving approximately £70,000 in accident costs. This was at the same time as completing RoadRISK assessments on their drivers. I like to think this was as a result of identifying the training need through the assessment and retraining.

As well as these results an evaluation survey, completed by over 700 TNT drivers showed that they felt that the on-line RoadRISK assessment had been useful and helped them to improve their driving.

Looking at the wider business and financial context, if it is assumed that TNT’s return on sales are 10%, the above savings are equivalent to generating an extra £5 million in revenues. If it is assumed that the hidden costs could be as much as twice as high as the actual costs the safety program is worth as much as £10 million in new revenues.
