Crawley depot managed to reduce accidents by approx 50% in 2003 from 2002 as well as saving some £70,000 in accident costs. This was at the same time as completing RoadRISK™ assessments on their drivers. I like to think this was as a result of identifying the training need through the assessment and retraining.

When one depot used the Driver Risk Assessment product they reduced collisions by 50%, but I cannot say it was only down to the risk assessment. Like any initiative the risk assessments are not an answer in themselves - it is more about changing attitudes to affect a behaviour change.
Changing attitudes is not just about influencing drivers it's about changing the culture within the organisation and within depots - which the risk assessments help us to work towards.

We have made great improvements in our fleet safety performance over the last eight years as a result of this program. In the last 12 months the collision rate reduction has reached a plateau, which has led us to further enhance our program through the ongoing development of our innovative risk data-warehouse and risk data warehouse which has been run and managed by Interactive Driving Systems® these past 8 years, collision data, Driver Index and a renewed push on our Starting Point driver risk assessment, monitoring and improvement project.

Implementing the Risk Foundation module of Virtual Risk Manager® has allowed us to review all our policies and operating procedures and engage all our people through the Pledge and Policy assessment. We are delighted that so far over 50% of our people have committed to the program by signing the Road Safety Pledge, and are encouraging the remainder to do so over the coming weeks. We are also planning to take the opportunity that the process provides to integrate our Permit to Drive and in-vehicle training activities into Virtual Risk Manager®'s MIS.
